We are delighted to announce two new members of the Legal Aid Justice Center team, Fallon Speaker as Legal Director of our Youth Justice Program and Fanny Brisker as our first-ever Director of Human Resources.
Fallon Speaker – Legal Director, Youth Justice Program
Prior to joining LAJC, Fallon served as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Law and the Director of The Jeanette Lipman Family Law Clinic at The University of Richmond School of Law where she taught students in a holistic legal clinic dedicated to working with communities affected by domestic relations, child welfare and dependency proceedings, and intersectional areas of the law such as substance use, mental health, housing, immigration and social services.Before moving to Richmond, Fallon served as a Staff Attorney and Team Leader in the Family Defense Practice at The Bronx Defenders where she represented parents in child protective proceedings who were accused of abuse or neglect. During her time in that role, Fallonbecame very active in policy, lobbying, community organizing, and movement lawyering. She played an integral role in coalition building and creating legislation to reform the child welfare system and state central registry. Fallon also served as an Adjunct Professor at Cardozo School of Law and Director of the Mainzer Family Defense Clinic, where she taught and supervised students in child protective hearings. Fallon received her undergraduate and Juris Doctorate degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Fallon centers her work life balance by striving to live a well life. She enjoys boxing, yoga, hiking, running and outdoor activities with her dog. She also owns and operates an organic and natural skincare business, By Justine, LLC.
Fanny Brisker – Director of Human Resources
Fanny was born in Managua, Nicaragua, and grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland. She received a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and a master’s degree in Human Resources Development from McDaniel College. She has over 15 years of experience in human resources. She is passionate about supporting organizations experiencing hyper-growth while building their people and culture processes.
Fanny currently lives in the greater Charlottesville, Virginia area with her husband Alex, their three daughters, Graciela, Daniela, and Rafaela, and their 12-year-old Goldendoodle, Dunkin (as in Dunkin Donuts). When not busy juggling her children’s activities, she enjoys reading, listening to podcasts on various human resources topics, and visiting local Virginia wineries and breweries.
