  • What is NAP and why should I consider donating and applying for NAP credits?
    • NAP is a program that encourages private sector involvement in alleviation of poverty in Virginia and awards tax credits for qualified donations. The tax credit awarded is different than that of a regular charitable contribution which is why it merits a simple application and approval process. If a donor’s gift is approved for NAP tax credit, it may benefit the donor’s tax liability when they file taxes. Donors are encouraged to seek advice from their tax account or other tax advisor before making a donation, or when tax-related questions occur.
  • What is considered a qualified donation?
    • A minimum donation of $500 for an individual or $616 for a business must be received by LAJC after deducting the administrative fees. IRA and qualified charitable distributions like 401k distributions may be eligible. Donations made through a Deferred Charitable Contribution Plan or donor advised fund are not eligible for NAP tax credits.
  • What do I need to do to apply for NAP? How will I receive the NAP credit?
    1. Contact us at: developmenteam@justice4all.org to obtain the 2 brief forms you will need to complete:
    2. Donate to LAJC:
      • A donation of $500 or more directly addressed to LAJC. Accepted methods of payments may include check, credit card, electronic funds transfer, payroll deduction, or marketable securities (i.e. stock).
      • The 2 completed forms mentioned
    3. LAJC will then review the completed forms and submit them to VDSS accordingly.
    4. VDSS will then review and approve eligible submissions. VDSS typically has an 8-12 week turnaround time on submissions.
    5. Once an application is approved by VDSS, they will share the corresponding Tax Certificate with LAJC. Depending on the donor’s preference, LAJC will then mail or email Tax Certificate to the donor.
