Welcome Anisha and Heather
We are thrilled to announce two new key members of the Legal Aid Justice Center team: Anisha Singh, Co-Deputy Director of Advocacy, and Heather Brown, Deputy Director of Operations.
With over a decade of experience in public interest and social justice work, Anisha brings a dynamic background rooted in grassroots organizing and legal advocacy. Her expertise spans a wide range of issues, including immigration, gun violence prevention, AAPI engagement, race and ethnicity, religious rights, employment discrimination, reproductive healthcare, and civil rights.
Before joining LAJC, Anisha served as Chief of Staff at the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division. In this role, she advised the agency’s leadership on strategic priorities, communications, and outreach initiatives.

Previously, Anisha was the Executive Director of the Sikh Coalition, the largest Sikh civil rights organization in the United States. Anisha has also held key leadership roles at Planned Parenthood Federation of America and at the Center for American Progress.
As the Co-Deputy Director of Advocacy, Anisha will set strategic direction for the organization’s impact advocacy work, supervise the leaders of our civil rights and racial justice, housing and consumer justice, and immigration justice teams, and oversee LAJC’s litigation, policy, and organizing efforts.
Heather has 25 years of experience leading teams in private industry, local government, and nonprofit organizations. Heather was most recently the Chief Operating Officer at the Central Valley Community Foundation (CVCF), where she managed daily operations and led impact initiatives seeking to dramatically improve inclusive economic development in California’s Central Valley.
Prior to joining CVCF, she served as the Chief Administrative Officer at Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission (EOC). Heather was active in the Fresno community, serving on the boards of Girl Scouts Central-South, Access Plus Capital, and Poverello House. She was also a Leadership Council member for the Community Foundation Opportunity Network, a national network of community foundations.

Heather is the Deputy Director of Operations, where she will oversee LAJC’s Finance, Information Technology, Human Resources, and People Operations teams.
Please join us in welcoming Anisha and Heather to LAJC. As we continue to advocate alongside our communities across Virginia during this increasingly challenging time, we are thankful to have these two strong leaders with us in the fight.
