Legal Aid Justice Center Teams with Underground Kitchen to Host a “Wizard of Oz”-Themed Benefit Dinner
The LAJC Big Bash Will be Held at the Science Museum of Virginia’s Dewey Gottwald Center
in Richmond on March 16 from 7-10 pm
Legal Aid Justice Center is joining forces with the Underground Kitchen to celebrate 50 years of justice with a fantastical event at the Science Museum of Virginia’s Dewey Gottwald Center in Richmond on Friday, March 16, 2018. The special “Big Bash” pop up event will feature a “Wizard of Oz” theme designed to transport guests to another place and time through an immersive, multi-sensory cocktail party experience that also highlights the impact of the Legal Aid Justice Center in the community and the Commonwealth at large.
Top chefs from Virginia, Florida, and New York will be on hand for the “Big Bash” to create an imaginative tasting menu that will put guests in a dreamily “over the rainbow” state of mind.
- Brian Mullins is resident chef of Aprons Cooking School at Publix in Glen Allen, Va., Brian’s career in hospitality spans experience in small bistros to large convention hotels and everything in-between.
- Giovanna Delli Compagni is sous chef of Asiate at The Mandarin Oriental in New York City. She was the first woman awarded the prestigious C-CAP/ Institut Paul Bocuse Scholarship from the Daniel Boulud Scholarship Fund, and she has appeared on Food Network’s “Chopped.”
- Levi Mezick is a development chef at Virgin Voyages, and former executive chef at Coastal Luxury Management in Monterey, Calif. Originally from Charlottesville, he started his career at the Clifton Inn, and since then, he has worked for notable chefs Daniel Boulud and Thomas Keller.
New York City mixologist Gaston Costa Buonocre of Relais & Chateaux property Del Posto, which is owned by Mario Batali, Joe Bastianich, and Lidia Bastianich, will be the mastermind behind the Oz-themed cocktail menu for the evening.
Tickets are $200 per person, $375 per couple, and go on sale January 2018.

. ABOUT UNDERGROUND KITCHEN
Underground Kitchen is a supper club that gives members access to a unique, one-night-only, multi-course pop up dinner in an undisclosed location with a top chef. A limited number of people get a ticket, but everyone can register to receive the invite to secure a seat. In the invite, a few details are divulged: the dinner date, theme, chef, and a clue about the where the event will be held. That’s it. The exact menu and location are kept secret until a few days before the dinner. Tickets are all inclusive (meal, wine + gratuity), and prices vary per event. Tickets are first come, first served, and sales are limited to two per member.
