Institutionalized_378x250The Virginia Institutionalized Persons (VIP) Project was created in 2007 and is staffed in our Charlottesville office. We aim to improve conditions and protect the basic human rights of everyone living in the commonwealth’s institutional facilities, including prisons, jails and mental health hospitals.

The VIP Project’s limited resources mean that we cannot represent individual inmates. We’re particularly focused on efforts to improve basic services such as healthcare in Virginia’s state prisons, reform of the commonwealth’s broken parole system, and promotion of system-wide changes that affect many in the state’s care.
