THANK YOU FOR SAYING “NO” TO WEAPONS IN OUR SCHOOLS

Thank you to everyone who helped us oppose HB 1309! Together we told lawmakers that disciplining students does not require weapons. The Senate subcommittee voted against this on this the morning of Feb. 19.

HB 1309 would have permitted local school boards to arm school security officers (school employees who are not law enforcement officers) with batons, stun weapons, or any spray device to incapacitate a person.

THANK YOU, ATTORNEY GENERAL HERRING!
Thank Attorney General, Mark Herring for extending in-state tuition eligibility to students with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)!

Send a message Attorney General Herring.

EDUCATE EVERY CHILD IN THE COMMONWEALTH
2014 promises to be a year for positive school discipline reform in Virginia. Several bills have been introduced that will help ensure that young people can make academic progress during suspension or expulsion, or remain in school for minor misbehavior. Even with positive bipartisan momentum, it is important for constituents to encourage state representatives to support this legislation.

Read more about the bills currently under consideration, and then send a message of support to the Virginia House Education Subcommittee members.

IMMIGRATION REFORM
Urge Congress to enact fair, sensible immigration reform.

The United States is a nation of immigrants. We need immigration reform that honors this proud legacy, and recognizes the contributions of our hardworking immigrant neighbors, co-workers, classmates, and friends.
Send a message to Congress.
