Legal Aid Justice Center staff members are working to help Virginians understand how the Affordable Care Act (ACA) works and how to enroll into health coverage through this historic law. The time to get coverage is limited to Open Enrollment with a few exceptions such as moving, losing health insurance, and having a baby.  Open Enrollment runs from mid-November 15 through the end of December.   If you are already covered by a health insurance plan you obtained through the Federally Facilitated Marketplace, you might need to renew or change your coverage during Open Enrollment.

For Individual Assistance:
Call 434-220-1496
in Charlottesville or the counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson or toll-free at 1-888-392-5132 for the rest of Virginia to set up an appointment in any of our offices in Central and Northern Virginia in order to learn about your options for getting affordable health coverage through the ACA.  Our staff will explain the new healthcare law and help guide you through the process of getting enrolled in a health insurance plan through the Federally Facilitated Marketplace created by the ACA.  We can also help with appeals from Health Insurance Marketplace eligibility determinations, complaints about an insurance plan’s compliance with the ACA to the Virginia Bureau of Insurance, and help understanding the “tax penalty,” and if applicable, filing for an exemption from the tax penalty.

For Group Presentations:
If you are a health services provider in the greater Charlottesville, Richmond, Petersburg,or Northern Virginia regions or other interested organization, our staff are also available to give group presentations on the ACA.
