Durante su anterior trabajo en The Bronx Defenders, Alex ayud\u00f3 a cientos de clientes a conseguir prestaciones, refugio y propiedades incautadas; tambi\u00e9n dirigi\u00f3 la cl\u00ednica de mala conducta policial y presion\u00f3 a la legislatura estatal para lograr una mayor responsabilidad policial. Antes de eso, form\u00f3 parte de la oficina de la congresista Donna Edwards, donde trabaj\u00f3 en propuestas para abolir la pena de muerte federal y restringir el acceso a las armas de fuego, entre otras cuestiones. Su trabajo voluntario incluye la mediaci\u00f3n en casos de demandas de menor cuant\u00eda y la ense\u00f1anza de un programa de defensa pol\u00edtica para estudiantes de secundaria.
