National Advocacy Organizations
National Immigration Forum -- Advocates and builds public support for public policies that welcome immigrants and refugees to the United States.
National Immigration Law Center – NILC’s mission is to protect and promote the rights and opportunities of low-income immigrants and their family members. NILC staff specialize in immigration law and the employment and public benefits rights of immigrants.
Farmworker Justice – A nonprofit organization that seeks to empower migrant and seasonal farmworkers to improve their living and working conditions, immigration status, health, occupational safety, and access to justice.
National Council of La Raza -- Private, non-profit, and non-partisan organization focused on reducing poverty and discrimination, and improving opportunities, for Hispanic Americans.
National Employment Law Project -- NELP’s Immigrant and Nonstandard Worker Project seeks to protect and promote employment rights of low wage workers.
American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia -- The ACLU of Virginia is a private, non-profit organization that uses lobbying, litigation and public education to promote civil liberties and civil rights in the state.
Key Coalitions in Virginia
Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans of Virginia (CAPAVA) (no link currently available) -- The mission of Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans of Virginia (CAPAVA), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is to have an organized voice throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Creciendo Juntos – Growing Together -- An inter-agency and inter-community network for issues related to the Latino/Hispanic community in Charlottesville City, Albemarle County and surrounding areas.
Colaborando Juntos – Working Together -- An innovative network of government, nonprofit, faith, private and community volunteers who work with and for the Latino/Hispanic community and its wellbeing. CJ increases public awareness of critical issues by encouraging partnerships and leveraging resources. CJ serves the Central Virginia region.
National Capital Immigration Coalition (NCIC) -- The NCIC is a group of organizations that advocate, educate, and mobilize the immigrant community in the DC metro area toward citizenship and civic participation. NCIC will work for economic and social justice, to prevent the erosion of civil liberties and civil rights for all immigrants and enhance their quality of life.
Virginia Coalition of Latino Organizations (VACOLAO) -- an alliance among organizations in Virginia that serve or support the interests of the Latino/Hispanic community to empower the community and secure equal treatment, equal opportunity, and equal representation for Latinos/Hispanics.
